A five-year-old rabbit has reached its senior years. Jumps onto the hutch roof may become rarer, even though the appetite may be as good as ever. If activity has dropped suddenly, age may not be the only reason; talk to your vet in that case. Burgess Excel Mature is made for exactly this stage of life.

Burgess Excel Mature is a complementary food for rabbits from 5 years of age. The recipe includes glucosamine (0.04%), added by the manufacturer to support joints, plus dried cranberry (0.06%) and thyme (1%) for flavour. Crude fat is 3% and the manufacturer's figure for beneficial fibre is 40%; monitor an older rabbit's weight and adjust the daily amount if needed. The prebiotic FOS (0.4%) supports gut flora.

Every nugget is identical, so even an old habitual picker cannot choose only the best morsels. Grass meal is the first ingredient in this recipe. Hay remains the main food: 85 to 90% of the daily menu.

Feeding guide
Complementary food. The exact daily amount by body weight is given on the pack. Hay or fresh grass should make up 85 to 90% of the daily diet, nuggets are a small portion, plus a handful of fresh greens every day. Fresh drinking water must always be available. Monitor an older rabbit's weight and adjust the amount if needed. Change to the new food gradually over 14 to 28 days.
